The HIC ICT Development Project - How it Works

The project is funded through Capacitybuilders to work with at least 20 voluntary and community organisations per year in Hertfordshire, to help them develop a sustainable and strategic approach to information and communications technology (ICT).

Applications are made on a form available through the website www.herts-ic.org.uk (print and post, or fill it in online).

With advice from the HIC ICT Steering Group organisations are selected from all current applications, based on several factors including geographical location and spread, organisation size, theme, and target group.

A day or two is spent with each selected organisation finding out its aims, what is happening now and what is planned for the future. An ICT Health Check is also carried out, to get an inventory of current equipment and look for any short-term problems (solutions are suggested).

Then a strategy is mapped out, to get from here to there making the best use of available technology in a sustainable way. The strategy is discussed and agreed with the organisation, then ongoing advice and support is provided for fixing problems, removing obstacles, finding funding advice and getting external ICT support where necessary.

Finally the progress from beginning to end (excluding confidential information) is published for the benefit of other organisations in Hertfordshire. The overall aim is to make the voluntary and community sector in Hertfordshire more effective!
